What's open today

Phase I is 45 km on two lines: Washermenpet to the airport (23.1 km) and Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount (22 km), with 32 stations. Its extension from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar (9.05 km, 9 stations) opened in 2021 and 2022.

On 11 October 2026 the first stretch of Phase II opened: Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani on Corridor 4, about 15 km of elevated line with 11 stations, running 7 am to 9 pm from the next day:

  • Poonamallee Bypass, Poonamallee Bus Stand, Poonamallee Govt Hospital
  • Karayanchavadi, Kumananchavadi, Kattupakkam, Iyyappanthangal, Thelliyaragaram
  • Porur Bypass, Porur Junction, Vadapalani

Some stations between Porur and Vadapalani were reported to be left out of the first opening. Check a station's status on CMRL's site before counting on it.

Together they make Phase II 118.9 km and 128 stations, at ₹63,246 crore, and take the network to about 173 km. In August 2026 the government told Parliament the work was 54.62% complete.

On OMR, Corridor 3's track is laid for about 10.5 km from Nehru Nagar to Karapakkam. CMRL's own target for all of Phase II is the end of 2028; an earlier government release said 2027. Neither gives a date for OMR on its own.

If you're choosing an office or warehouse

  • A station under construction isn't a station. Plan your team's commute on what runs today, and treat the rest as a bonus when it comes.
  • Measure the walk. A building "near the metro" can be 1.5 km away by road. Walk it at office hours.
  • Expect the works. Elevated stretches mean barricades and diversions for years; ask how the building's entrance and parking are affected.
  • The new western line serves Vadapalani, Porur and Poonamallee: see offices in Vadapalani, Kodambakkam, and warehouses in Porur and Poonamallee.
  • OMR offices are a commute by road for now: see offices on OMR.
